Wheatsheaf
your comments review this restaurant
The Wheatsheaf reo-pened in 2002 after a period of closure when the building was threatened by demolition to make way for a railway viaduct. Thankfully, that plan was shelved after a campaign by Borough Market Association. Just down from the Market Porter, this pub's on the bare side (stripped floors and pew-style seats) but it serves an excellent pint and the grub is pretty good (and inexpensive) too, made with fresh produce from the Market. Particularly good bangers and mash. There is a telly but it wasn't on during our Saturday afternoon. Predictably busy on market days, especially so after the market closes when many of the younger (more bohemian) market workers choose this over the other local pubs, making for a friendly and lively atmosphere. Great friendly staff, great landlord too. I'll now be going every saturday! (Recomended to all)
