St John's

Great selection of drinks. Excellent restaurant. Bar staff very poor - too busy trying to be cool. Acoustics appalling in the bar area. All in all worth a visit to eat. Could be the best gastro pub in North London if it could be bothered.

I also live very near St John's, and I've stopped going now because the service is so bad.
The food is very good, and the drink and wine selection is excellent as well, but the last four times I've been the staff have been offhand at best, and just plain rude on the last two visits, which was a bit much, since the bill came to over two hundred pounds each time. They also have the temerity to charge a hefty service charge on to the bill when I've had consistently better service in the kebab shop near Tufnell Park tube!
So I'll be taking my custom else where in future ( Lord Pamerston actually, food every bit as good AND good service), and leave St John to sit on its laurels.

I feel very lucky to live so near a great pub like St Johns
If all you want to do is sink a few drinks with some friends you do so in lively and very friendly atmosphere.
If you also want to have a great meal at a very reasonable price then you won't be disappointed in the restaurant at the back.
I have been going here for years now and the days of walking in and getting a table have now gone and you will even need to book for a Monday night.
This is obviously a sign of its success and I like many keep going back for more as the menu frequently changes and I have never had a bad meal there.
You can't go wring with Char grilled squid to start and the steak for main (great big chips with loads of alioli).
Enjoy
