Langley

I was expecting Langley to be a lot cooler (and pretentious) than it actually was. Hence, I was pleasantly surprised that it was yet another bar that played anonymous (v.loud) house music, and has a bustling, hectic atmosphere but no real character.
Upon entering, one walks down a spiral stairwell, lit in burnt orange with very 70s lights on the wall. Downstairs there are a range of quite comfortable choclate brown sofas and a long and narrow bar, that connects to another larger, circular section.
The clientele appeared to be a real mixture of random types, who all appear to be somewhat surprised to be sharing the same venue. A little loud, a little brash (but surprisingly not rude) and quite fun to an extent.
Yes, there are the usual range of bottle beers (I was pleased to note that Asahi was being servered alongside the ubiquitous Stella) alongside the cocktail menu.
It felt a litle bit like a meat market, without being too openly obvious about it (the girl in the turquoise top, with a matching pendant, was quite stunning - and a doppleganger for Rene Zellweger, but MUCH more attractive), minus having to fend off yet another lame chat up line.
Whilst it was trashy fun, I didn't find Langley any different from any other bar in the area. Wasn't as bad as I expected but didn't offer anything new, and certainly not offering the same kind of edgy (but friendly) atmosphere around Hoxton. Still, the other choice last night was Detroit - which I absolutely loathe, so I do owe Langleys a debt of gratitude in that respect.

I have been here a couple of times in the last year and I must say that this one of the many bars in Covent Garden that serves below par cocktails. However the atmosphere is good and bar area is pretty funky so not too bad as a place to meet before moving on elsewhere.

I was shocked to find that I had a really good time as I was a bit put off that it was quite crowded but as the night went on it just added to a party atmosphere with the funky house and Acid Jazz music. The restaurant food was gorgeous (I recommend you try the Char-grilled Red Snapper !) and the cocktail menu was so varied that I almost faited with delight that there was a "New" and "Old" section so you could have a modern classic like a Tom Collins, or a goldie oldie like a snowball. It may close at 1am, but from the minute you get in there, you get lost in the food and cocktails.
