Opal

Opal Bar is not only stylish and funky, but it is unpretentious. The managers are the epitomy of organisation, the DJs know exactly what buttons to press to make the party-goers run to the dance floor, and the bar staff really know how to make cocktails! Great venue to chill with friends, meet new people but also to host your own party. Drinks prices are high, but you pay for what you get. I cannot recommend it enough!

While the atmosphere of the club once inside is more than ideal, the doorman is quite unpleasant. Not only does he put on an elitist front for the non-regulars, but he also has been known to error on his "mental" guest-list (making the thug completely useless). Again, once inside, however, Opal is quite enjoyable. It offers a grotto-like location, with many alcoves and places to chat. Mixed drinks range from about 6 to 12 BP and on the whole, the rest of the staff is very accommodating. Amazingly, we have always found the DJ to be unbelievably perfect - playing current pop sets that include Britney and Beyonce, followed by Prince, Aretha and The King. The variety truly is great, not to mention that he immediately responds to requests. While the club doesn't truly have an official "dance floor," you can definitely get your groove on in a number of nooks and crannies found throughout the grotto. If you are up for a very posh night out (and willing to put up with the hassle behind the velvet rope), get gussied up and give Opal a try!
