Great bar with really nice staff. The food is yummy and well priced, beers on average the same price as everywhere else in the area, but the range is very broad. Winelist well put together and with a choice of 6 of each by the glass (small and large!) they are very happy to let you try before you buy! Not great on cocktails though, but the ones they do are fab! Pimms is a winner here - as is the Cuban Mule on a hot night!

What makes this place so cool is the laid back non pretensious staff. They always bend over backwards to help and try to serve you as fast as possible - and with a smile. There are some very interesting Belgian beers (Chimay Blue is my favourite!) and they stock 2 organic ciders apparently exclusive to them in London. These guys obviously care!

My boyfriend and I came across The Peasant last Sunday, and I can honestly say we have found a gem! The brunch menu is quite varied - and being vegetarian I was amazed at the wide variety of dishes to choose from. A perfect balance for everyone. Service was laid back and really friendly which made us linger for a very long time over Belgian beers.

I spent yesterday afternoon celebrating my birthday at The Peasant with a group of around 30 people, and we were all so impressed. Apart from being beautifully decorated, the venue is light and spacious, and relatively smoke-free. I had a great Bloody Mary, the food was delicious and reasonably priced, the service was excellent, and we were welcomed to stay as long as we liked after our meal, which is almost unheard of!

I have been going to the Peasant since late 2000. It has simply gotten better and better; the wines, the staff, the beers and especially the food. This is a great place for a summery a-deux (especially the intimate outside dining area) or for a hearthy wintry repas. Furthermore unlike some other parts of Clerkenwell, it's never been pretentious (even when Mother was next door).

The Peasant was lovely. good meal, non intrusive but attentive service, ok wine list, and relaxing environment. Never felt rushed or neglected.

Poor. Poor Poor.
Food was over priced service was rude and the tip isn't disceretionary!
Our wine was delivered awash with cork, which I attempted to remove until a tutting waiter took it off me and a tried to remove with a spoon then returned to me stil with floating cork. I set the glass aside and continued with my meal. No checkback on the meal but my wine was again removed with the snering comment that as we had chosen a wine that was sold by the glass it would be replaced at the end of our meal. This was then offered as 'compimentary' once we were finished eating. Yet I'm sure my bill was for a whole bottle!
Making light of it and not wishing to make a fuss we paid up but in doing so remove the 'optional ' service charge as no one had earnt it. Enter the manager who asks if we have a problem, we say all is fine and make to leave. We are then chased down the stairs for an explaination, which I then give - 3 attempts at one glass of wine etc etc - we didn't feel the need to tip.
No sorry no please call again and we will endevour to do better just the jumped up manager yelling that his staff were well trained and that he used to be manager at Moro- Well we can see why you ain't now!!
give it a miss.
