This is a down to earth, friendly pub just up the road from Charing Cross but tucked away just enough not to be a magnate for gallery weary tourists. The downstairs bar is a curious wedge-shape with the far 'V' being reserved for smokers. Upstairs there is another room but unfortunately no 'dumb waiter' so you take your chances on the narrow stairs with your pints. Decor is Victoriana without being too precious about it. Good little food menu catering for both veggies and non-veggies (think more 'cheese on toast' than 'sirloin steak'). Staff are very friendly, I went there with some friends on a busy night and we were crammed round a small table. We ordered food and the waiter spotted that a larger table had just come free so put our food on it to reserve it for us. Has what I think is a real coal fire in winter. Attracts customers of all ages, is a good little pub.
