American Bar

Quite simply the best cocktails in the whole of London. The relaxed atmosphere is suprising when you consider the excellent service that this bar provides. Drinks superb, staff and nibbles ditto. The excellent piano player sings gently in the background as you enjoy a totally relaxed convivial evening with friends. Naturally the Savoy isn't aimed at the Chinawhite type "Gold digging PA with white handbag meets rich overweight man who should know better" so if that's your scene head further into the west end. Thankfully the £10/12 per cocktail price keeps these people out.

I went to this bar for the first time last night (a Thursday 2 weeks before Christmas). The bar was busy but not without free tables, however, the waiters were overwhelmed. It might be that they were short staffed (I don't know) but it took more than 25 minutes to get a waiter to take an order and then another 10 minutes for the drinks to come. At £9-13 a drink, this is laughable. The decor is nothing special. Avoid.

I have spent a number of evenings relaxing in The American and alway found it a charming place to enjoy the finist cocktails London has to offer.

A quick cocktail before dinner or the whole night enjoying the atmosphere and listening to the excellent pianist - all work fine with me.

The drinks are not cheap, but you really don't want them to be. They have been doing it right for a very long time - lets hope they never change.

Nice cocktails served under the direction of wonderful Mr Dorelli. There is a very very nice English (non-European ! Surprise, surprise ) waiting staff here who is very helpful re: choosing a suitable cocktail for one's liking. I love their Old Fashioned. I love this place. I only hope that the Savoy Group will keep it as it is.
