What is this bar doing in Padddington? I've heard of speculative development but this is ridiculous. This bar belongs in Soho. It dreams of a Clerkenwell postcode. It fantasises about the area north of Oxford Street that people infuriatingly refer to as 'Noho'. Despite all this pretentious yearning Steam is actually very nice. It's light, airy feel instils in its customers a relaxed atmosphere away from the dirt and grime of the Paddington Basin redevelopment. It has a good selection of lagers, a vast array of bottles and an adequate, if not extensive, range of ales. Sofas are comfy and afford a good vantage point for people watching on Praed Street. Just arrived in London by train? Looking to get in the mood before you hit central London proper? This is one of the best places to begin.

The bar is brilliant - and has some awesome German beers!
FYI - the closest tube station is Paddington (30 seconds) and it is located in the Paddington Hilton - on Praed Street!

Had a rotton time. Staff were rude and the bar was just pub like. The rnb sounds were too loud and the Fashion T.V. was just like watching Soft porn
What happened 2 the Steam bar of old.

Since this restaurant is connected to the Hilton and they advertise it as a place for late night dining and I was staying at the Hilton, I thought it would be a good place to grab a late meal. WRONG! When I asked for a menu, all they had was a bar snack list and they refused to order anything else from the kitchen until I asked to see the manager. The music is repetitive and mind numbing. The TV shows the fashion channel continuously. Stay away! Stay far away!

This used to be a welcome oasis in the dreary Burger King desert that is Paddington after 11pm, a sanctuary for the weary traveller at the mercy of GWR and Thames Trains. But no more! One has to pay £7 for mere admittance which must deter all passing trade. It is infuriating as I have really enjoyed my previous visits, especially the fine St Peter's Ale.
